Kairios, similarly to kairos, is an ancient Greek word meaning, roughly, “being in the right place at the right time.” The ancient Greeks envisioned both the spiritual and practical essence of kairios by using an image similar to that of the archer familiar to students of Zen, whose attention is both focused and diffused as she becomes one with the arrow, its flight, and the vital heart of the target. Another Greek image for kairios is that of the weaver who passes his shuttle between the ever-moving threads of the warp with the perfect timing born of holistically integrated rhythm to create something of beauty, organic strength and essential, practical utility.
